District 7 Deserves More Than Hindsight Politics

INDIANAPOLIS – As the Federal Government deciphers a $700 billion bailout of the financial markets, District 7 constituents are left searching for the promised "bold leadership" of our congressional representative, Andre Carson. In a recent press release, Congressman Carson asked for "collaboration to find a solution", another example of promises now being made to cover lack of action. In another press release, Carson stated McCain should openly participate in tonight's scheduled presidential debate.

The question which voters in the 7th need to ask themselves, according to Republican Candidate Gabrielle Campo, is, "At what point did Mr. Carson decide to require the accountability and transparency of these financial institutions, before or after receiving $137,400 from the financial industry?" Unfortunately, Mr. Carson has made his motivations clear. By his acceptance of major contributions from special interest groups and lobbyists, he has tied himself to the traditional path of our elected officials, and not to the voters who elected him. Further, the Congressman might consider adhering to his own advice, to openly debate and share his ideologies with District 7 Voters, as he has not responded to Campo's request for debate.

Campo states, "District 7 needs more than hindsight politics clouded by special interests." We cannot stand by and let our community pay the price while some continue running a campaign money treadmill. As someone free of entanglements, I seek to restore trust in our government by removing lobbyist's unrestrained influence on legislation. I have a deep desire to work with the incoming administration to reform Washington and return the power of government to the people. I will work proactively to identify sustainable oversight and protection within the free market framework for taxpayer dollars. In addition, I commit myself to open dialogue with the people.

Campo has dedicated her career to servant leadership and direct service. As a social worker, Campo has coordinated youth programs helping children in Low-income families, managing post-adoption cases, working on publications dealing with issues facing Hoosier families, and serving on many local committees, including the Indiana Disproportionality Committee, the Indiana Coalition to Improve Adolescent Health, and the Marion County Underage Binge Drinking Task Force. Campo is a member of the National Association of Social Workers and the International Society of Child Indicators.
